Chef James Parker started his professional journey at the Pennsylvania College of Technology where he received his culinary degree. A seed for artistic food decorating was planted and it just grew from there. In 1991 he moved to Washington D.C. and for the next decade he honed his culinary skills, grew his network, and learned more about the fascinating world of food art. There was no internet at the time so his search for the best teachers led him to Lucerne, Switzerland, Bangkok, Thailand, and all over the United States.
In 2001 Chef Parker launched Veggy Art, LLC. He immediately started calling all of his contacts and landed some big clients very quickly. Bloomingdales, Dean and Delucas, Sutton Place Gourmet, and Balduccis in New York City were just a few. Chef Parker attempted to be the first ever to sell vegetable garnishes in retail stores nationally. But it was the demand for classes and demonstrations that changed everything. He started traveling all over the country teaching individuals and organizations the art of fruit and vegetable carving. Within a short amount of time he had visited at least half of the United States, as well as, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, and Canada.
In 2012 Chef Parker was invited to speak and demonstrate at an event at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia. At that event there were discussions about another upcoming event the following year. The Food and Wine Festival. Chef Parker was asked to put together a team of Food Artists that would highlight amazing food art and interact with park guests during this annual event. That is how The Food Artist Group was born; A group of internationally acclaimed food artists who travel all over the world providing demonstrations, creating amazing showpieces, and entertaining audiences with their one of a kind “Food Art” creations. The Food Artist Group creates their unique artwork for Public Relations Firms, Special Event Companies, for Print, Media, Advertising, Marketing, and for any organizations wanting to highlight their brand in a fun way. Product Launches, Grand Opening events, Trade Shows, Open Houses, State Fairs, Food and Wine Festivals, and all media related events. The Food Artist Group has been a part of many amazing events.
Chef Parker and his work have been featured on the Food Network, the Today Show, Fox and Friends, Fox Morning News, HSN, The Rachel Ray Show, as well as, in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Plate Magazine, Fast Company Magazine, Thailand’s GM Magazine, The Korea Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Korea Daily, and dozens of other media outlets online and around the world.
Chef Parker has gathered an impressive client list over the past 15 years. The White House, Marriott International, Ritz Carlton, Food Network, TLC, Discovery Channel, Dole, Wiliams Sonoma, Chic Fil A, The Today Show, Giant Eagle, Safeway, Busch Gardens, Bonefish Grill, Buzzfeed, Yelp, and Silver Diner are just a few.
In 2016 Chef Parker received The Distinguished Alumni Award from the Pennsylvania College of Technology. He spoke to the graduating class at commencement and left them with these words. “Don’t just chase after Happiness. Happiness is fleeting. Instead, seek to be the most grateful person you know. If you are genuinely grateful for all that you have, you will also find happiness.”
